About Me

I only use one name, Brooks. I feel this name really suits me. I started making art and writing when I lived in Paris in my early 20's. I came alive creatively there and have continued to produce work since then. In everything I do I am drawn to 'mixing different materials', so collage or mixed media has always been a particular passion. I have won awards with my art and my poetry. My art has been juried into shows and galleries and my poetry has been published in journals and anthologies.

Most of my life I have lived on the ocean and I spent 35 years on islands. Now I live happily in the middle of North Carolina. In addition to being an artist and writer, I have been an expressive art therapist, counselor, workshop facilitator, educator, actor and marine mammal worker. My most recent marine project was helping re-articulate a sperm whale skeleton. I have 2 Master's Degrees and was a licensed counselor. I share my life with a partner who is also an artist, as well as 2 dogs and 2 cats.
